Farming
We have been doing vegetable farming and black gram cultivation in about 2 Hectares of land in Soruguda through community participation. Govindalaya has made necessary investment for seeds, tractor tilling, fertilizers and organic manure. Locals have been working for free in the farm. Yield of the field is equally distributed amongst the stake-holders to the satisfaction of all. At present about 20 persons are engaged in such and other farming activities and are earning livelihood at their door-steps. Organizational earnings out of such activities are pumped back into investment kitty thereby creating more livelihood opportunity for locals.
Demonstration Centre
We are in the process of setting up a Forest Division (Jeypore) level model farm on 5 Acres of land in Soruguda village of Nabarangpur district. This is a farm forestry model developed through forest research. We are seeking technical support, funds and other inputs under Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project. Our model shall function as one of the technical guide station for providing information on different farm forestry models, cost benefit analysis, market information etc.
Projects under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA)
Govindalaya is an empanelled NGO under ATMA. Under this arrangement we are undertaking (i) training / exposure visits of farmers in the category of “farmer oriented activity”, (ii) agricultural exhibitions & information dissemination through printed material in the category of “farm information dissemination”, and (iii) identification of progressive farmers and convincing them to use their infrastructure and expertise to set-up and operationalise “Farm Schools”.
